Michael Jordan 80s Jordan

Michael Jordan won the NBA Rookie of the Year.  It capped off the first year in the career of the greatest basketball player of all time.  Jordan would go on to win 6 championships, 6 Finals MVPs, 5 season MVPs, 14 All Star Games, 10 scoring titles and 2 Olympic Gold Medals.


80s TitanicThe wreckage of the Titanic was found south of Newfoundland.   73 years after the unsinkable Titanic luxury liner sank during it’s maiden voyage, the wreckage was found by American and French researchers at a depth of more than 12,000 feet.

January 1, 1985: VH1 (Video Hits One) made it’s debut.

February 23, 1985: Volatile Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight was ejected from a game against Purdue for throwing a chair across the court.

April 23, 1985: Coca-Cola announced it was changing the formula for Coke.  New Coke was a flop and the “classic” Coke formula returned a few months later.

July 13, 1985: Live Aid concert was held simultaneously at England’s Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia’s JFK Stadium.  The concert raised over $245 million for Ethiopian famine relief.

October 2, 1985: Rock Hudson died of AIDS.  He was the first U.S. celebrity to die from AIDS.

November 20, 1985: Microsoft Windows 1.0 was released.
