The Food and Drug Administration approved Prozac for the treatment of depression.  Prozac’s popularity soared in the late 80s.

80s SimpsonsThe Simpsons make their television debut.  The Simpson were originally shorts shown on the Tracy Ullman Show.

March 13, 1987: Mafia Boss John Gotti is acquitted of racketeering and murder charges.

March 30, 1987: Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” sold at auction for $39.9 million.

April 5, 1987: Fox Network began.  The fledgling network aired the first episodes of “Married… With Children” and “The Tracy Ullman Show”.

April 6, 1987: During an interview with Ted Koppel on Nightline, Dodgers GM Al Campanis said that African Americans may not have the necessities to manage or general manage baseball teams.

May 8, 1987: Gary Hart withdraws from the presidential race when news broke of his affair with Donna Rice.

July 7, 1987: Oliver North testified at the Iran-Contra affair hearings.

October 4, 1987: The NFL played games with replacement players during a players strike.

December 8, 1987: The INF Treat was signed by the U.S. and the Soviet Union.  The treaty eliminated intermediate and shorter range missiles.
