The Simpsons premiered on Fox.  The longest running animated comedy began it’s 26 year (and counting) run.  Homer Simpson has become a cultural icon for the ages.

80s GameboyNintendo released it’s Gameboy in 1989.  It was an instant phenomenon and became the biggest selling video game system.

March 24, 1989: Oil Tanker Exxon Valdez hit a reef in Prince William Sound spilling 11 million gallons of crude oil.

June 4, 1989: Chinese Military opened fire on student protesters in Tiananmen Square.

August 24, 1989: Pete Rose, baseball’s all time hits leader, was banned from baseball for gambling.

October 17, 1989: A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit San Francisco Bay area just before the start of game 3 of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland As.

November 9, 1989: The Berlin Wall, separating communist East Berlin from West Berlin was torn down.  It marked the end of the Cold War.

December 20, 1989: U.S. invades Panama to arrest President Manuel Noriega for drug trafficking.
